Modern GOAT Race Ranking

An original Goat Arena index combining scoring, creation, total goal contributions, match rating and recent form. It is an editorial statistical model, not an official football ranking.

What is the Modern GOAT Race?

The Modern GOAT Race is a season-tracking project following a selected group of elite attacking players. Instead of comparing entire careers, this tracker focuses on what is happening during the current season: goals, assists, appearances, average rating and recent match contributions.

The leaderboard is designed to answer a different question from an all-time GOAT debate: who is performing best right now?

How the rankings work

The dashboard lets you sort the players by individual production metrics. Goals measure finishing output, assists measure creative contribution, appearances provide availability context, and average rating gives another performance signal.

No single number should be treated as a definitive measure of football ability. A striker, winger and midfielder naturally have different responsibilities, which is why the tracker exposes the underlying numbers instead of hiding everything behind one unexplained score.

Current players in the race

The tracker currently follows Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Lamine Yamal and Vinícius Jr. The selection can expand as the project develops.

Why recent form matters

Career totals are useful for understanding legacy, but they can hide what a player is doing during a particular period. A player may have fewer career goals but be producing at an exceptional rate this season. Conversely, a famous name can remain highly regarded while going through a quieter spell.

The Modern GOAT Race therefore separates career legacyfrom current performance. The leaderboard should be read as a snapshot rather than a permanent ranking, and it is refreshed as the season progresses rather than kept as a fixed record.

How to read the leaderboard

Use the metric buttons to change the ranking. Click a player to inspect their current totals and last five matches. The form strip provides a quick visual record of goals and assists in recent appearances, and the movement indicator next to each stat shows whether that number is trending up or down from last week.
