Rodri

Rodri is a Spanish defensive midfielder renowned for his tactical intelligence, positional discipline, accurate passing and ability to control the rhythm of a match. He became a central figure in Manchester City’s most successful era, scoring the winning goal in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final and winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or. In August 2026, he returned to Spain to join FC Barcelona.

Rodri usually operates in front of the central defenders, offering a reliable passing option during build-up and protecting the space ahead of the back line. He scans for pressure before receiving the ball, uses his body to retain possession and moves the ball quickly to help his team progress. His passing range allows him to switch play or find teammates between opposition lines. He can also arrive outside the penalty area and contribute goals, while his positioning helps his team recover possession and maintain its structure.

At Goat Arena, Rodri should be evaluated through more than tackles or passing accuracy. His value comes from how he controls the centre of the pitch, prevents counterattacks, offers safe passing angles and helps his team dictate the tempo. Ball recoveries, interceptions, progressive passing, possession retention and availability should be assessed together to understand his overall influence.
